Stained Glass with Fused Elements

This flat glass design class is a workshop for beginner students interested in stained and fused glass. Students will learn basic skills for working with flat glass like cutting, grinding, copper foil and solder, along with the added bonus of fused glass. Learn the basics of simple glass fusing using stingers, frit, and powders to add depth and detail to your panel. 

This class will also discuss simple stained glass design and be centered around making an object you want to have displayed in your home. Never worked in glass before? Join us in making your first ever stained glass object.

The class will start with a social exercise about each student’s interest and expectation around stained glass work along with a few personal facts to warm them up to one another. This is followed by a brief lesson on some of my favorite parts of stained glass history and an introduction to simple glass design.

Students will then spend time learning how to cut glass by cutting out shapes I provide. They will then create their own design on paper. Copper foiling and soldering demos will happen once each student has a collection of glass ready for the next step. Final assemblage solder demo will happen towards the end of the class when all pieces are prepared and cleaned.
