This introductory course is a comprehensive and creative exploration of flower design, guiding students through approximately eight to ten distinct design styles that span both American and European floral traditions. Whether you are entirely new to floral design or have some basic familiarity with flowers and want to develop a real skill set, this course builds a strong and versatile foundation.
Each session introduces a new style of design, from clean, structured American arrangements to the lush, naturalistic compositions of European garden style, with stops in between that include contemporary and seasonal approaches. Rather than simply replicating arrangements step by step, students learn to understand the principles behind each style: how color theory informs palette selection, how different textures and stem types interact within a composition, how proportion and scale create visual balance, and how seasonal foliage can transform even the simplest bouquet into something extraordinary.
Instruction is provided by experienced professional floral designers who bring both technical depth and creative encouragement to every class. Students work with fresh, seasonal flowers throughout the course and take home a new arrangement after each session.
