Class Description

Description

In this comprehensive workshop, we will examine French wine labeling systems and explore how these labels relate to important European Union regulations governing wine production and labeling standards.

We will conduct an in-depth study of Bordeaux wines from foundational principles upward. In this prestigious wine region, wine styles are fundamentally shaped by a combination of soil conditions, grape varietals, and the winemaker's hand and expertise. You will explore Bordeaux's distinctive terroir characteristics in order to better understand the nature of wine blends, how the style of the region's wines has evolved over hundreds of years, and recent changes in blending practices and flavor profiles.

This course provides an extensive history, detailed geography, climate analysis, and comprehensive study of Bordeaux wines, from everyday value wines to the most age-worthy and collectible of all French wines. The curriculum encompasses dry white wines, elegant dry reds, and succulent sweet dessert wines, providing a complete education in this iconic wine region.
