MLD-522 Moldflow: Advanced Simulation Topics - Thick Walled Modeling
This advanced course will allow the user to understand how to use Autodesk Moldflow Insight to simulate the molding of thick walled plastic parts. While most parts are considered thin-walled parts when using injection molding, some wall thicknesses can exceed 0.500" in thickness.
In order to efficiently mold these components specialty, auxiliary processes can be used. This coures will cover how the user can simulate both gas-assist injection molding, and chemical foaming processes.
After the class, the student will be able to:
- Understand gas-assist injection molding (GAIM) and when to use it
- Understand chemical foam molding, with chemical blowing agents (CBA), and when to use it
- Set up a GAIM analysis, and set the gas-pin parameters
- Set up a GAIM analysis, with overflow wells
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the gas channel, and how the process could be modified to achieve the desired end wall thickness distribution
- Export the gas-channel geometry for use in 3D modeling software
- Set up and analyze a chemical foaming process
- Evaluate key results for the chemical foaming process to determine how the part weight and overall porosity would change for the part
