Class Description

Description

Explore the vibrant world of Korean culinary traditions by mastering restaurant-quality dishes while gaining a deep understanding of the essential ingredients and distinctive cooking methods that give Korean cuisine its remarkable flavor profile and health-promoting properties.

Dishes Featured on the Menu:

  • Kimchi Mandu, featuring tender pan-fried dumplings filled with seasoned ground pork and spicy fermented kimchi
  • Doenjang Jjigae, a rich and deeply flavored stew combining fermented soybean paste with silky tofu, fresh zucchini, and chewy rice cakes
  • Japchae, an elegant stir-fried noodle dish made with sweet potato glass noodles and a colorful medley of fresh vegetables
  • Kimchi Fried Rice, transformed from day-old rice into a delicious, aromatic main course

Practical Information and Guidelines:

  • If you maintain specific dietary restrictions or allergies, please contact CourseHorse directly to discuss accommodation options.
  • Upon arrival, ensure you ring the exterior buzzer to alert us of your presence, even if the front entrance door appears unlocked or open, so our team knows you have arrived.
School Notes:

For NYC In-Person Classes:

You’ll receive a complete recipe packet and enjoy a full sit-down meal at the end of class with your classmates. Our classes are BYOB, and you are welcome to bring a bottle to enjoy at the sit-down meal (not including our baking or dessert classes).

Our classes are hands-on, coupled with demonstration-style teaching. Everyone is situated at their own cutting board/chef’s knife station around a large wooden work table that accommodates the whole class (10 people max). We work together as a group, with the chef at the head of the table.

We focus on knife skills, preparing ingredients for cooking, and we strive to find every opportunity to offer you a hands-on experience at the stove and at your station, all within the spatial parameters of a single stove/family-style kitchen. We ask for volunteers to assist in all cooking.

Refund Policy

For Public Classes:

We have a firm 3 business days cancellation policy (for credit only) to ensure that we have enough time to re-fill your seat with another student.

Please note: Boot Camps require 6 business days notice to be rescheduled.

While it is not in our nature to say no, we are simply not able to accommodate last-minute illnesses or work-related conflicts. However, you are always welcome to send someone in your place, because we understand that these things do happen. Classes are not refundable.

 For Culinary Boot Camps:

Because of the volume of Boot Camps we offer, we cannot offer make-up classes to anyone who misses a single class, no matter the reason, as it happens too often and we cannot handle that volume of make-ups.  Once you book your boot camp, make sure to mark (and prioritize) all the dates in your calendar.

Because we know how disappointing it is to miss a class, you are always welcome to send a friend in your place (just send us their name ahead of class), and perhaps insist that they cook you dinner as repayment.

In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.

 Thank you for understanding!

  • Introduction to Korean Cooking

I had an amazing time. I learn new important cooking skills as well as a refresh about things I already knew. John the instructor was super helpful and allowed us to ask many questions. Best part was that we were able to take food home which was a delight.

This course was delicious, informative, and entertaining! John is a great instructor - funny, knowledgeable, and generous with his time. The space was clean and well-lit, the ingredients were laid out well, and the instructions were easy to follow. We all left with at least one dish we'd be comfortable cooking at home. I plan to take the other Korean cooking class next!

I was excited to take this beginners class to learn to make these korean dishes. Jennifer, our instructor was easy going (always had a smile on her face) and was full of information. We were taught technique and she answered our questions while we made several different dishes. I enjoyed myself immensely! I have to say that when I left the class I was walking down the street, singing in my head "I'm in heaven..." LOL Can't wait for this weekend to make pork dumplings and for the next several weekends will attempt to make another dish taught in class like the kimchi fried rice with a fried egg on top and the beef bulgogi, before I forget what I learned in class. And next month the Kimchi Jigae which I found surprisingly delicious as I'm not a fan of spicy food. I highly recommend this class especially if taken with Jennifer!
