About ArtWorks at West Side YMCA
The ArtWorks program offers a variety of classes in the visual arts, including ceramics, stained glass, drawing, and water-color. We have been offering craft classes to the Upper West Side community for over 30 years.
The diversity of classes includes all levels of handbuilding and wheel as well as photo ceramics, majolica and other specialized techniques. This is a friendly, supportive studio with ample open time for you to practice as well as learn from others.
Practicing a craft is focusing for the body, calming for the mind, and enriching for the spirit…all part of the YMCA mission!

Stained Glass
The class was fun and easy to learn. I wish that there were a little more supplies available (soldering irons and grinders) so that you don't have to wait your turn, but I was still able to complete 3 different projects over my classes. I enjoyed the projects and see how you can really expand the scope of projects if you sign up for additional class sessions. It was an interesting skill to learn and a very enjoyable class. -

I had a great experience. Virginia is an excellent teacher with a huge passion for the medium. The other students were friendly and helpful. I'd take this course again! -

Stained Glass
Great class, excellent teacher. My one suggestion is that certain safety measures (wearing a mask while soldering, for example, or wearing gloves when applying patina) should at least be discussed, even if the teacher chooses not to follow them herself. -
Stained Glass
Great class, with a relaxed, friendly vibe. -
Beaded Jewelry
This was an out standing beading course. The teacher, Mrs carol Horn, is an expert teacher. She presented projects for the class to do that were not only beautiful but of her own design. She explained the process clearly and was always available for help. -
Stained Glass
The class did not at all match the description. Materials sub-standard. -

Loved this class. The instructor was very helpful and gave everyone individual attention as needed. Lots of materials to choose from, and the class had a good vibe. -
